Indivisible

Rating: PG- 13

Bring the tissues! Yes I can’t believe I’m saying this, someone who doesn’t cry easily when watching films, but I have to admit the raw performances in Indivisible had me fighting tears. Even though my experiences in life are vastly different to the characters the emotions, doubts, fear, anger & hope are universal! We ALL have moments in life in which we can relate to the emotions involved in this film. Based on a true story it does not shy away from exploring not the glossed over version of life but the messy reality of life. Instead it taps into many of the doubts & fears we are often to scared to admit we feel, especially with the tragedies that are happening in the world at the moment.

The cast shine in Indivisible giving performances that range from gut wrenching through to tender/ makes you want to smile. The leads Sarah Drew & Justin Bruening give solid performances having previously had roles as faith based characters in Grey’s Anatomy they are pro's at these roles and it shows. Another Grey’s alum Jason George was also brilliant however the stand out performances were from Skye P Marshall & Tanner Stine! Both elevating what had the potential to be an unrealistic character developments instead creating something so natural & raw it impacts to your very core.

I’ll be honest & say there are times that the production level is not as amazing as it could have been. The soundtrack although incredible at times also often missed the mark. The sound editing was all over the place & I have certainly seen better directing/editing etc. however the same can be said for many lower budget/indie films. Ultimately the story & the portrayal of that story make this well worth a watch!

It does deal with some heavy topics, so not one for the young kids, however great to watch with your teenagers & open up the discussions around Struggle, Doubt, PTSD, Marriage & Faith. Indivisible will allow you to discuss those issues without resorting to the often used but rather unhelpful ‘corny’ answers. Instead gives a chance to open up to real discussions that allow us to really talk about the complicated difficult to answer issues of a faith filled life.

If you can head along, with tissues in hand, to see it while it’s in cinemas. If you are questioning, doubting, or have friends who are then Indivisible is a great film to start up some real conversations.

Warning does contain some thematic material, war & violence.
