Ralph Breaks the Internet

Rated: PG (would not recommend for kids under 8)

Having never seen the first Ralph film I enlisted my housemate, an animated film buff, & my friend’s kid who loved the Wreck it Ralph film to go along to see the sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet. From them I got a very brief overview of the first film which I’ll be honest prepared me sufficiently for the sequel, I was ready to meet Ralph & his friend Vanellope.

The concept was fantastic, going into the internet and creating world that consists of the staples of the internet like search engines, gaming characters, quizzes, video sharing & social media. Some of my favourite moments was in the brilliant way they showed ad pop ups, algorithms & search engines.

Numerous cameo’s & the oh so relatable internet moments/ jokes will keep the adults laughing as well. Although the Stan Lee Cameo was a little bitter sweet the rest of the cameo's & voices you'll recognise are a lot of fun.

It is certainly a film for over 8 year old’s. Not a lot of truly scary moments, there is one or two, however the storyline can get quite intense for kids under 8. While Ralph Breaks the Internet for the most part keeps the moments mostly light it does dive into some rather large issues. And at times it feels like it is trying to cover way too many topics in the one film.

Perfect to watch with your pre-teens & teens as it opens up many conversations topics to talk with your kids about. And it’s not just the internet dangers & benefits but also topics of healthy friendships, respect, self-worth & acceptance. It might even help any parents out there struggling with watching their kids enter a new phase of life!

There is no need to have seen the first to go see Ralph Breaks the Internet, but if you have some time this holiday period, I’d recommend making some popcorn & settling in for a movie night at home before heading out to see the sequel.

Ralph Breaks the Internet is out in Cinemas on Boxing Day and would be a great family day out in the cool of the Cinema Air conditioning recovering from what I hope it a wonderful but probably full on Christmas day.
