Spider-Man: Far From Home | Review

Rated M: violence, explosions, loud noises and very minimal swearing.

Being the first Marvel coming out after Endgame Spider-Man: Far From Home had a lot of emotional tributes to pay while also needing to show the world that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is still as strong without some of its key foundational characters.

Spider-Man: Far From Home did it all and with great style, humour, action and fun. While Spider-Man might still be awkward his journey to maturity the film was smooth as silk proving that the MCU is in very capable hands post Endgame.

Look out for the touching, yet hilarious, and quite literal tribute to the past 10 years of the MCU towards the beginning, setting the tone for the film and reminding us despite all Spider-Man has dealt and lost he is still just a teenager still in high school.

Tom Holland as Spider-Man/ Peter Parker has been brilliant since the first time he appeared in the Marvel films, usually the side character with funny quips, always ready to lighten the mood of a tense situation. However in Spider-Man: Far From Home he gets to really grow, delving deeper into the complex emotional range that was first seen in Infinity War and Endgame with Holland portraying it all with such a purity, innocence and strength of character that is heart-warming to watch.

There are still plenty of laughs, especially from the long standing best friend Ned, Jacob Batalon, showing the complexities and strength that comes from friendship. Zendaya is perfect as MJ bringing such beautiful awkwardness, intelligence, vulnerability and strength to a character that you'll want your young girls looking to.

Nick Furry, Samuel L Jackson, and Maria Hill, Colbie Smulders, are solid in the roles they have now been playing for years. And one of my personal favourites Happy, Jon Favreau, steps up in a big way this film. While new comer to the MCU is Mysterio, Jake Gyllenhall, is wonderful in this new role managing to play a bigger than life character without taking the focus away from Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is everything you want from a Marvel Film with plot twists, unbelievable special effects/ stunt work and a director, Jon Watts, who artfully balances character development, beautiful locations and epic fight sequences without any one aspect overshadowing the others.

Spider-Man Far From home is well worth seeing on the big screen. Great to take the older kids to this weekend and while it’s a fun film to watch it also brings up topics of staying strong to who you are, learning to trust yourself, the power in friendships and how important finding the truth in all the lies is. All very relevant issues right now!

Just remember to stay for the credits!!! , as with all Marvel films, it is worth staying till the VERY end of the credits. With an extra 2 scenes, one midway through and one at the END.
